Our Story
Our family owns a hotel that was established more than 30 years ago. Due to the recent pandemic and its ongoing impact, we were forced to furlough half of the staff members. Since the pandemic is ongoing, we needed to find ways to provide our long time and loyal staff members with sustainable income. Since the family also owns a nearby property that once was a recreational fishing ground and restaurant, we decided to renovate and revitalize the property and turn it into a beautiful lush garden that provides shopping and café facilities, that would provide much needed work for our furloughed staff members
Since the project was done during the pandemic, we tried to do it as economical as possible, as a result we came up with the “Green – environment friendly, sustainable practices” concept, not just during the build but also as an integral part and fabric of our operations at Kebon Kencana.
We did not build any new structures, only refurbished and beautified existing ones for the most parts, using materials that were already in the family heritage and possession, for example old windows, stained-glass windows panes, doors, panels and frames, wood pieces and other items from ancestral homes that were in storage. The many aspects of Reuse and Repurpose that have been incorporated, is aimed to bring about an interesting charm and nostalgia, as our guests roam and enjoy the compounds.
For our operations we try as much as possible to support the sustainable practices such as using non plastic / non disposable items, composting most of our waste materials, re-purposing and upcycling, sourcing our supplies locally and working with local vendors and communities.
Through all the efforts, we sincerely aim to provide a pleasant and invigorating experience that our guests will enjoy at our cafe and boutique, amidst the amazing view of Mount Merbabu, Mount Telomoyo spanned across our forefront, and take home warm and happy memories with their family, friends and loved ones.
